Development (General) / Re: Compile Odyssey for ABI_V0
« on: December 10, 2018, 04:06:44 PM »
I downloaded icaros desktop light 1.4 everything works perfectly, when I have time I try the last of the 1.x series, I will update what I need, like the fat handler etc..etc ..
Hi. The 1.x series has been deprecated for years. Too much old AROS code, and some applications *need* at least Icaros 2.0 to work.

Help / Re: GMA Graphics on D945CLF2D board
« on: December 10, 2018, 04:01:23 PM »
I tried the GMA driver with the VGA output of three of my netbooks/laptops. I didn't see any corruption at 1024x768@60 or any other resolution. I used Icaros 2.2.3 (confusingly, the About window still says 2.2).

What kind of corruption do you get? What's the PCI product ID of the graphics chip? Does the problem occur with older Icaros releases?
Hi Neil, the problem occurs only at 24 bit resolutions, please try them with an external monitor.

General Chat / Re: best way to emulate classic 68k?

I have images of my old Amiga A500+ hard drive (.hdf files), and my original kickstart 2 ROM image files too.  What's the best way to run them from AROS?  Alternatively, what's the best way to run them from 64bit GNU/Linux?

I have Icaros Light installed on an old laptop, and can transfer files on FAT32 USB stick.  My .hdf are less than 1GB.

My main aim is actually to get OctaMED SoundStudio running again, so I can import my old modules and sample library, and re-export the modules with the samples embedded instead of just having references to the sample library...

(I have my original OctaMED CDROM somewhere, and have downloaded the NSM patched main binary that enables plugins and avoids need for CD to be inserted at program launch).
You have two options. Either use Janus-UAE or Janus-UAE2 which is a port of WinUAE being still worked on by O1i. You shouldn't have any issue at all to transder your HDF files with a USB pendrive. On Janus interface, however, you will have to specify the hdf filename by hand because, you see, there is no "browse" button to enter them.

Craig, new user AndreaFK just wrote this in his presentation topic:
Only real glitch I'm getting is that the GMA driver doesn't seem to like 24 bit resolutions and corrupts the screen, it is wonderful at 16 bit
He's using a similar Atom board to yours. Would you please test if at least 16bit (65536 colors) resolutions work for you in native GMA mode?

Hello and welcome. You're not the only one experiencing issues with the GMA driver. I suspect there might have been regressions, although I wonder how, since version 2.2.4 of Icaros Desktop didn't change anything in this department.

Hi all

I finally tested again the compilation process and committed the patch to ABI_V0-20161228-patch and to  Odyssey on deadwood repository on:
I also added my instructions on how I was able to compile.

@AROS committers: please review the AROS patches on:
Basically to make Odyssey with new ssl working I had to:
- Backport OpenSSL 1.0.1
- Modify curl to make it work with new openssl
- Modify some compilation flags on ffmpeg, add AROS headers on networking files and disable udp (temporary)

Next step will be:
- Integrate with new ffmpeg
- fix Bookmark and Cookie broken dialog windows (I guess the known issue with tree list).

Please let me know your comments...
Hi. I'll start with a big thank you, since your build of OWB seems also more stable (at least, this is the feeling I have today with current websites). The only issue I have is that its executable is around 100 MB bigger, and does not fit at all in Icaros Desktop Light. Is there any plan to shrink/strip it down, maybe using some development magic I am totally unaware of?

If not, just tell me and I'll try to reconsider some of Icaros Light contents in order to make the necessary room.

Why are you reinstalling at all? Just boot with your installation media, open

AROS -> prefs -> Env-Archive
and look for screenmode.prefs file. Just delete it.

Help / Re: Network under AROS hosted (Linux)

There is a little mistake in the image. Interface net0 for AROS address is, not My bad.

Hi paolone,
It's still not running, but when I try paolone's suggestion something changes! :)
When I set the IP-mode of the tap.device "eth0" (in AROS) to "manual" and use as the IP-address, the ping-command (e.g. "ping" in a shell) tries to reach its address (it just does not return and waits until eternity ;) ).
Before that (when the IP-mode is set to "DHCP"), the ping-command says: "ping: sendto: No route to host".
So, I think, that's a step towards the right direction ;) . - Luckily the hosted version of AROS boots in no time. That makes experimenting with different settings quite easy. :)
Ok, listen, I really cannot explain this concept better than this. Look at the attached image, it's how hosted icaros is configured by default.

Development (General) / Re: AROS 68k Library
« on: November 30, 2018, 02:56:07 PM »
again. aros m68k is not a port of aros to amigaos3. there is a reason afa os has been a separate effort. aros modules have most likely aros dependencies, not available on amiga. while it may be possible to improve on it in certain cases, it is not in scope of aros.

if every os module (library, whatsoever) was replacable and working on os3 and vice versa, aros would have to be 1:1 copy of os3 without improvements.
Where is the "like" button?

AFAIR It's AROS 68K that is compatible with AmigaOS 3.1, not necessarily also vice-versa.
You can run AOS3 things on AROS 68K, not necessarily the contrary. AFA-OS, indeed, replaces some AmigaOS components with AROS ones. Maybe you should ask his author to help you.

Development (General) / Re: Request: a command to change sound volume
« on: November 29, 2018, 03:28:59 PM »
The original request was about a cli command, which I'll try to make. If somebody else wants to create a GUI for it, they can.
What do you think about this one? :-)

It will basically work like this:

1. at the beginning, it will launch your command without values, to get the current volume (a numeric value between 0 and 100)
2. the knob in the slide will move accordingly
3. if I tick Mute, your command with the 0 value will be shot immediately
4. if Unmute, your command with the initial value will be shot
5. when exiting the value in the knob will be applied

The "AHI Mixer" button already opens prefs/AHI, this will let user do the fine tuning without opening Prefs every time. I will have to manage things in a way that exiting it won't change volume in this case, if necessary.

AspireOS / Re: AspireOS v.2.2 codename "Obitus" is ready.
« on: November 28, 2018, 08:47:39 PM »
That is correct Paolo. Use it with Icaros.  More compatible than old version.
Yep, I just made a refresh of Icaros' AROS files with that! Thank you.

New update. Now the new ata.device works as it should.
Please test and report.
Have you taken it from yesterday's nightly build on (26th november when running 'about').
