Title: OWB Situation
Post by: salvo on October 08, 2019, 12:16:22 PM
Hello to all

I tried the deadwood version works with youtube, there are problems due to the age of the motor, "I don't mean programming", on ebay you can't see the images of the articles and on facebook the images of the posts (cmq you have to log in as ipad) and facebook basic is impossible, google services are not accessible and surely something else, I make myself available to the community by offering 200 euros a month, and 500 only for the month of January then for the remainder of the months always 200 the more I cannot do for the moment, in a year and a half I will be able to pay a larger sum.

Yours sincerely

I'm using OWB 1.25 from 29.08.2016 and Youtube works without problems. There is no need to spoof as other browser, because if you spoof OWB like Chrome, then you can't see the previews. I'm using YouTubeCenter.user.js, so I don't know if I can watch videos becouse of it. For now, I can use Facebook spoofing as Internet Explorer 10 and it sorta works... something has changed in the last days, so I can't see anymore my list of contacts. The rendering of the pager is much better if you spoof as Chrome 42 for Linux, but often all the adds on the right overlaps the posts if you scroll down the page. I haven't tried Ebay lately, so I don't know if it works. Anyway, I gived up using OWB included in the latest versions of Icaros, because it crashes always trying to watch a video, both on Youtube and Facebook.

I understand you becomes frustrating after a while, I have remedied with rdesktop and I connect to ebay and facebook from a small computer with win7, however as I said in the other thread, opening a bounty to collect a sum of money over time would not be a thing wrong, now I'm not doing any spofing, I'm looking for services that can go for example I was looking for an alternative to gmail to group all my accounts and I found it, facebook is an ordeal, thank goodness I'm not using it right now , however yes the icaros desktop version does not work properly :(

Maybe the best thing to do right now, is to collect a good ammount of money and then hire a coder for a specific task. Other OSes does this to complete complex tasks. I think Haiku does this. Just creating a bounty and tie some money to it has never worked too well for us. Collect a good ammount of money and hire someone to work on a fixed goal.

you wont get anyone hired for no amount of money to work on amiga like system. it has been talked to death for twenty years and nothing happened. all you can do is to support the dedicated developers as long as they are any.

I am not aware of this too if there is anyone currently working on owb, so I will wait as I think all possible procedures to act with donations :-X

i think that dedwood owb is best at moment, maybe must fix ssl tls, also version on icaros must be but youtube do not work however ::)

What about asking to Fabien Coeurjoly, the original author of OWB? He should know how to update OWB. I think it's only a matter of how much money he wants to do the job.

i have never talked to fab, but apparently he retreated even from work on morphos and considering that morphos developers do not like to share their work with other platforms too much, i think these are rather remote options.

at moment use rdesktop for enter on one site because the image item do not see, the site is ebay, i have one thin pc with win 7, we hope for the future the browser is important and knowing that you have a system that has at least one is comforting :)

as for secure connections, just download the new openssl release and make a compilation?
Title: Re: OWB Situation
Post by: salvo on October 23, 2019, 05:34:23 PM
yes to what I understand there is a patch created by nicola for ffmpeg and openssl you have to change this at least for what concerns openssl, the part of ffmpeg since it doesn't work you can also remove it

We can just ask if he's interested to update OWB and if yes, how much he wants for completing the job. The worst thing that can happen is he replying "sorry, I'm not interested". So Morphos' OWB is closed source?

Post by: salvo on October 23, 2019, 10:34:55 PM
I'm not a programmer but maybe I'll be able to update openssl, at least this, the rest I won't be able to do it, everything is possible from the patch created by nicola scendoni :)

effectively, yes.
Title: Re: OWB Situation
Post by: salvo on November 01, 2019, 09:23:41 PM
the situation apparently after the patch made by nicola scendoni is this, since as I was checking the "ignore ssl errors" box on settings / security, surely that problem was created on ebay that you didn't see the products and the posts on social media like facebook, now I set the browser as chrome 42, on facebook it's ok, at least the page displays it perfectly, only it's a little slow to load despite my xeon x5570 at 3 ghz, these days I upgrade to a new processor that costs a lot and is at least more powerful, is a x5690 at 3.48 ghz, to finish nicola scendoni has not completed the upgrade to ffmpeg but I don't know maybe you can return to a previous version that at least works, yes because l latest revision of deadwood from the ability to watch movies :)
Title: Re: OWB Situation
Post by: salvo on November 02, 2019, 03:03:54 PM
I'm proceeding as written by nicola scendoni, to have the functional owb version of the html5 and openssl player upgraded, ffmpeg will always remain the existing one

i hope :-\

I'm applying the patch by removing the part related to ffmpeg, I think you're applying I just have to wait for it to finish and then compile we'll see :-X

apparently package has not been found on a given location. it can be verified clicking on the link you posted. google another valid location and replace it within the script.

@salvo

Also make sure you have an internet connection in the VM with the Build System running Ubuntu 18.04 mine constantly drops the connection. So I have to restart Ubuntu to get a good connection.
Title: Re: OWB Situation
Post by: wawa on November 02, 2019, 11:35:52 PM
actually imho its enough to check if the connection is on at all. normally right top of the screen, but yeah ubuntu seems to lose that at times so that it isnt even possible to reactivate. strange that such a popular disto always has so many problems.

I will modify the script then wawa, I will look for a source on google, miker I have no connection problems and just a link that no longer exists :-\

Hi Salvo and others

Sorry I read this thread only today....
I compiled successfully Odyssey with the new OpenSSL, but as you know that version have issues with video. If you clone the version from my repository you should be able to compile as well. I came across the issues decribed in this thread. The result for me is:
- A very unstable Odyssey when I compile on a 64 bit Ununtu 16 or 18
- A more "stable" Odyssy when I compile with a 32 bit Ununtu, but video doesn't work.

I tried to work on the issue with video,  but when I realized that I cannot use gdb I gave up.
I attach the scripts I used with a small description.

Here a quick description

settings.sh - Here I declare flags for compilation. The default settings are the more stable I found. You should modify the variable AROS to the path where you want to compile. The default is: /home/aros/abi_v0
provision.sh - install packages required for compilation
fetch_AROS.sh - fetch AROS and Odyssey from repository and prepare the links for compilation
compile_aros.sh - compile AROS
compile_odyssey.sh - compile Odyssey
start.sh - start the compled Odyssey

Please let me know if you have issues.

ch1ll (Nicola)

thanks ch1ll, what I intended to do was to keep the current version of the browser where it works for example youtube and update openssl only, I think I was succeeding but I was wrong to give the target to start configuration

See you soon

maybe these packages are enough for compilation, I have to try :-\

subversion git-core gcc g++ make gawk bison flex bzip2 netpbm autoconf    automake libx11-dev libxext-dev libc6-dev liblzo2-dev libxxf86vm-dev libpng-dev gcc-multilib libsdl1.2-dev byacc python-mako libxcursor-dev

I could no longer compile the alt-abiv0 version after installing everything you need from your script, it gave me the same error, let's try

consider:
https://github.com/aros-development-team/AROS/commit/1aa12138ca7990c2a44bc391d46c3c275c6c2931#diff-17fea6918a645a7d3834fcc3bb608421

i cannot though find a way to attach changed files. i havent also been entirely successful recompiling, but have not tried it clean, which is correct thing to do i assume.

if you have followed a hint the system is giving you, you would notice that you are missing a parentesis.

maybe I understood the mystery, when I make the updates of ubuntu (currently I have installed 18.04.03) nothing works even even the compilation of the deadwood branch that I had done successfully

now I try the compilation again
Title: Re: OWB Situation

I went to ubuntu 14 lts to see if something changes during the compilation, I get a strange error, but not only regarding the compilation of odyssey but also on the work of deadwood, I remember that I used it the first time on alt-abiv0 and everything went well hopefully

just I could not be wrong it serves ubuntu 14 lts for now I'm going on with the compilation and it has not stopped on the point of before (when I was working on lubuntu 18) we hope well

python-mako must also be installed
Title: Re: OWB Situation
Post by: salvo on February 13, 2020, 06:14:20 PM
at some point it gives me file writing error, maybe the problem is the hard disk, I have to do a new installation, this time on an ssd to see if it completes the compilation without problems, I'm going crazy :'(
Title: Re: OWB Situation
Post by: wawa on February 14, 2020, 11:33:34 AM
obviously delete files in your trashcan and clean up in general. its easy to run out of disk space compiling such a behemots like aros or odyssey especially with newer tools.
Title: Re: OWB Situation
Post by: salvo on February 14, 2020, 01:38:18 PM
I'll make a new installation but I don't think I'll be successful I have a 250 Gb hd and enough space, I'll try before the compilation to do a cleanup of the orphan files in the system
Title: Re: OWB Situation
Post by: salvo on February 14, 2020, 03:09:06 PM
well I installed the system again, downloaded the ch1ll scripts, I created the necessary directories where they are called, after settings.sh I downloaded all the necessary packages with the provision.sh script, I installed python-mako and after I made a nice apt-get clean.
Then after downloading aros and odyssey with the fetch_AROS.sh script, I gave the apt-get clean command again well the compilation is going and hopefully this time, I'm currently dealing with the system and right now odyssey ;)
Title: Re: OWB Situation
Post by: salvo on February 14, 2020, 07:17:44 PM
the compiled version does not differ from what is present on icaros, ch1ll is it possible to modify the odyssey patch with a more updated version of openssl and maybe leaving out the html 5 player part, so that it will work again?

All you need to do is go to "Source/cmake" and modify "VIDEO PUBLIC ON" to "VIDEO PUBLIC OFF" in the "OptionsMUI.cmake" file. As a result, you will get a 70MB executabe that also runs stable. If you leave video enabled, even mere MUI/Zune changes unrelated to Video may result in a broken build.

I would have a contact with a programmer but since I have to shell out a certain amount I don't know when maybe in June of next year, because currently I can't count on the financial visa and considering my very low income, then I don't know if something will change in all this time, but I would definitely pay for the program :-\
