It would be nice to have a recently replied topics page that you can bookmark instead of the current front page.
Checking all forum areas if there's something new is in the "no fun" category.
-
I was about to say the same 8)
But I noticed that once I am logged in, there is a link under the banner that allows to "Show unread posts since last visit. (https://ae.amigalife.org/index.php?action=unread)" That's not exactly the same indeed but i know other forums where it is the way also. Those forums don't usually need you to login for this service though, I guess they use some cookies to compare dates?
-
It is on the todo list to try and get something similar done for this site.
-
You probably know this already, but anyway.. "recent posts" and "recently replied topics" are not the same thing. The latter gives a better overview.

Sure, i can take a peak and see how i could do that. There is a mod for SMF which lets you bookmark topics you want to keep an eye on that i have considered installing as well (see here how that would work https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=864)

There is a mod for SMF which ....
Depending on what you had in mind (and you did not already know about them) it might perhaps be more interresting to have a look at simpleportal (https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1104)(website (https://simpleportal.net/)) and/or tinyportal (https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=97)(website (https://www.tinyportal.net/)) mods. They work with (custom) blocks such as recently replied topics, shoutbox, links sections etc. It should in theory be pretty easy with those mods to mimic old aros-exec forums without too much of a hassle. afaik they also provide a fronpage (hence the name portal in their name :P )
I wanted to check them out before suggesting those but i seem unable to get the freakin' SMF installer to coorporate on my machine.

Hey
Not seen them before but i do not want to mimic the old AE look, we will for example not have a news section anymore, it was very rarely used in the last couple of years. But thanks for taking the time to come up with suggestions :).
This site is not finished on the design part but i do not have the time right now for major work and the site works fine for now, it will improve over time.

Thank you for your time 4pLaY

I hear you, and no problem.
Might it perhaps be an option/suggestion to post a sticky somewhere that contains the links that aros-exec used to provide on its side-panel ? Right now my tag isn't allow to grow any further (or i must use URL shorteners) and i am still missing a link to the AROS archives. That is unless those links are destined to be forgotten.

I have added a links section now in the top menu. All members can submit links, right now i do not have time to sit and add links myself.

Decent list here, unless people submit links i will probably add most of these later on when i have some time for it.

Thank you 4pLaY as i can see the link at the top of the page.
Uhm.. is my browser blocking something there (or perhaps i am too clumsy/dumbwitted) as i fail to see how i would be able to add a link when i am logged in and travel to the links section.
PS: sorry for derailing the original topic. In hindsight there was a better thread in which i could have asked/posted. sorry to OP for that.
Edit:I've created a separate thread (https://ae.amigalife.org/index.php?topic=76.0) for a list with links to not further pollute this thread.

Any news on getting a recently replied topics block?

A Programming Language Pros and Cons page sounds good.

No, I have many projects going on and it is not easy to find a time slot for everything in the little spare time I have for these kind of projects.
