@AMIGASYSTEM

Suggestion for improvement: You can delete the following directories

Development/share/doc/openssl
Development/share/man/man3

This will get rid of around 6000 small files which slow down installation when using real DVDROM. These directories have been deleted from the contrib archive in the -1 release

Hi,

I have a bug report :)

When installed in dual partition setup (AROS + Work), there are some missing icons (see picture). Also native compiler is not working. Development: assign is not created as well as gcc is not on the path (see picture).
Title: Re: AROS One x86 Distro v1.7 Released
Post by: AMIGASYSTEM on June 01, 2022, 06:31:27 PM
I'd say it's not really a bug, my paths point to SYS:Development SYS:Extras, creating Work Extras gets moved to DH1, I've never installed with 2 Partitions, I'll do that as soon as I can.

The same thing happened if you didn't install Development, I solved it with a simple >NIL:

I could solve with a double "Assign Add SYS: DH1:" or something like that :)

Thank you for testing AROS One !

FYI, during installation InstallAROS write down two variables: DEVELPATH and EXTRASPATH that define where Development and Extras was installed. You can make assigns based on those variables.

The Extras: assign seems to be correctly created. You can check how it is done in S:Startup-Sequence. You can then reference your icons to Extras: paths. For Development: there seems to be something missing. I will dig into that.

Post by: AMIGASYSTEM on June 02, 2022, 08:18:22 AM
Regarding Extras I solved it with a "Path Extras: DH1: Extras" in the user-startup, Amistart works fine, it still needs to be changed in Amistart to the DH0:Extras to Extras: path.

The same thing seems not to work with Development:

It could be because of the famous problem on the Shell Reported !

Forgot ! concerns the OWB link, the ".backdrop" file located in the SYS:S/.backdrop path must be modified.

Basically at each reboot the .backdrop of the root is replaced with the one in SYS:S/. This procedure was necessary because the ISO has a different .backdrop and is not suitable for a system installed on HD.
Title: Re: AROS One x86 Distro v1.7 Released
Post by: deadwood on June 02, 2022, 10:25:25 AM
InstallAROS executed PROGDIR:InstallAROS-Post-Install script once the installation is complete. You could modify the HDD .backdrop file in that script once, instead of modyfing it at every boot. If you rewrite the file at each boot, if I user leaves out an icon, it will be reset after boot, no?
Title: Re: AROS One x86 Distro v1.7 Released
Post by: AMIGASYSTEM on June 02, 2022, 11:05:20 AM
Yes it is true, but many users do not know .backdrop and would not know how to edit, maybe in the System folder I create a small icon that allows you to delete .backdrop in S: or delete both, or a readme explaining how to delete .backdrop

Found an ideal solution, now the .backdrop will be replaced only in the first reboot, I created a command in the user-startup that after the replacement of the .backdrop, the user-startup will also be replaced that no longer contains that command.

Also, I moved the OWB shortcut to AmiStart, this is to prevent it from working only for those who use the two partitions.

I will now test it with only one partition to make sure there are no errors

deadwood if you don't want to waste time modifying AROS One, I created 2 small Installers that should fix everything, among other things I added the reboot command on Amistart and system.

I noticed that on real machines it is convenient to reboot the PC without using the CTRL-A-Delete keys.

Made a small video showing how installer works.

I attach 2 small installers, I made them separate because I am not practiced in creating installers, I had fun creating them with an Amiga utility and I would say it is well supported by the AROS installer, a half day effort but made with real pleasure.

I tested the installers on AROS with only one partition and they seem to work fine, if you find other bugs report them !

@ all
This update (a fix) and useful has installed AROS One on 2 Partitions (DH0 and DH1), those who use only DH0 as update will find different only the Reboot installed on Amistrat and on System folder.

Hi,

As mentioned in my intro message, I have just installed AROS ONE x86 v1.7 onto a Asus EeePC 1Gb ram, 8Gb/30Gb SSD, which had Linux. Replacing Linux with ARIS ONE makes the Net Book really usable.

I have installed the main AROS files to the 8Gb primary Master and leaving the 30Gb Secondary Master as a Work drive.

The omly problem I have is the WIFI is connected by a AW-NE766 PCI-E card, which does not have a AROS driver.

I was thinking about replacing the WIFI Card with a Atheros AR5B95 Card.

Would AROS be able to use this WIFI Card?

Hi derek, thanks for installing my Distribution, please find all hardware compatibility HERE (https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Platforms/x86_Complete_System_HCL#Acer), you will also find the actual compatibility of your Asus EeePC .

Hi,

Thanks for the link to the AROS HCL, the installed WIFI card is: RaLink RT2700E, I have found a second hand Atheros AR5B95, only 3.00, so when it arrives next week, I see if that works

Derek

I have noticed that there is little information on AROS on the Web, HERE (https://hup.hu/comment/2791599)  they also make confusion they talk about Linux Icons on my AROS One, they probably have never seen a DualPNG icon and how it was created, also  HERE (https://tech.slashdot.org/story/22/06/01/218219/aros-one-x86-v17-and-morphos-317-ppc-released) were a little bit inaccurate.

I am glad that on EAB (http://eab.abime.net/forumdisplay.php?f=29) da questa mattina ad ora hanno visitato in 1.700 la mia news su AROS One v1.7, Also the small video on AROS One v1.7 posted on Youtube night 31 already has 120 views.

I hope all this will serve to bring some users or developers back together and give the right information on the web

Hi AMIGASYSTEM,

can you create please a linux hosted version of AROS One v1.7 or how to do it yourself? i would like  to build Aros as a hosted version on top of Haiku OS, and linux hosted version needs to start with it. Also is it possible to build Aros with GCC 11.2 or Clang ?

Hello,

AROS builds is own cross-compilers (based on GCC 6.5.0) are part of it's build process. In that sense the compilers you have on your host system should not matter much. Here is instructions how to set up your AROS from sources:

https://github.com/deadw00d/AROS/blob/alt-abiv0/INSTALL.md

@ronin

Welcome on the Aros Exec, useful info by the good "deadwood" will be included in the next release of AROS One, you can report here any experience you have, maybe even attach some screenshots taken on AROS One Hosted Linux.

I personally do not use Linux, if you can create an automatic setup script that will be useful to others, this will be added on my next distribution, AROS One is everyone's and everyone can participate for its improvement.

@ronin

Yes, https://github.com/deadw00d/AROS/blob/master/INSTALL.md

Note that however that software for 32-bit AROS will not work under 64-bit AROS. 32-bit AROS however perfectly works on 64-bit Linux.

@deadwood thanks, in this case i have to build 32 bit Aros first on top of 32 bit Haiku system, as a starting point. By the way does your repository includes all latest commits from the official Aros repository ?

My master (which is 64-bit) is delayed about 6 months and contains 99% of commits.
The 32-bit branch (ABIv0) is delayed by 3 years (currently at 20190416 code base) but will catch up in future.

Cool, thank you. Is it possible to rebuild all current 32 bit Aros software for x86_64 ?

Not all.

There is a portion of software contained within "contrib" repository that builds along-side AROS core and is available on 64-bit. There is probably a bigger portion available via AROS archives (http://archives.aros-exec.org/) that may or may not include sources with them.

Oh yes, the all Aros archives should be rebuiled to x86_64 arch.

FYI, during installation InstallAROS write down two variables: DEVELPATH and EXTRASPATH that define where Development and Extras was installed. You can make assigns based on those variables.

For the same reason made other big fix, for those who were installing in DH1:Extras and DH1:Development.
Basically I fixed on Dopus4 all Buttons and file associations, which was using the path from DH0:Extras, same thing for some def_Icons, and some icons on Workbench, which also were using tools from DH0:Extras and DHO:Development paths

Now with the new AROS One x86 v1.8 these problems should have all been solved, software installed on Extras, will be found whether installed on DH0, or in DH1.

@deadwood

The two variables: DEVELPATH and EXTRASPATH should be fixed on the ISOs as well, I found the CARE that works well, but I don't know if it is correct.

Hi,

I have just installed Aros One v1.7 onto an Avent 4211C Net Book, which works really well.

I noticed the HDToolBox displays the details of the selected hard disk partition(s) in white text on a white back ground,  this is the same as the insatallation on a  Asus EeePC 1000H Netbook.

I had hoped the HDToolbox would liked tomthe system Theme, not the colours do not change.

Is there any way to change the text so that the selection can be seen?

Regards,
Derek

On many of the Themes I preferred to give the Applications that use Zune a white background in my opinion more restful and professional, unfortunately there are some Applications that use default font colors where you cannot change the color.

In the case of HDToolBox it seems that from Zune you can't change the colors, or I can't find it, anyway I created you a Zune setting that adds a dark gray background "only" on HDToolbox that will allow you to see the fonts well.

Copy the attached config file to SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/Zune/

Hi,

I understand the problem, is there no alternative to HDtoolbox, that can use the Theme colours?

I am assuming the source code to HDtoolbox is not available.

This should be asked to a developer, the sources should exist otherwise there would be no AROS version.

Have you tried the custom Zune config file for HDtoolbox that I attached in the prexceding post ?

Hi AmigaSystem,

Not sure if this is just on my setup but some games have no audio anymore despite the AHI Test sound from prefs working. I have tried it on VirtualBox and QEMU/KVM. I have the HDD set with the two partition DH0:System and DH1:Work

Can you tell me some game names where the audio doesn't work so I do some tests  DH0 and DH0/DH1 mode

Actually, scratch what I said. After rebooting, it seems to be working fine. This was not AROS related. Sorry to have confused you.

Don't worry, AROS is a work in progress, anything can happen, although the thing was very strange, the audio with the different paths had nothing to do with it.

It happens if I play music from the host machine and then try to use the AROS VM. The sound disappears from the games but the sound test in AHI Prefs still works. However, if I reboot the VM then all works as long as I do not play music on both sides. This happens in QEMU w/ KVM on Linux Pop-OS and in VirtualBox under Mac OS Catalina.

This may depend on several factors, Operating System, Sound Card Type, Settings .

I created a small video where Windows7 and AROS One "on WMWare" play an MP3 file simultaneously,

WinAmp and MPlayer play together without bothering each other or interruptions !
