Title: AROS One x86 Work In Progress
Post by: AMIGASYSTEM on October 23, 2021, 09:34:34 PM
Another interesting utility found on Aminet/archives.aros-exec is RMan a converter "man pages" (short for "manual pages") to many formats, an extensive online documentation used by almost all GNU/Linux distributions.

This version 3.3 is able to convert man pages to:

- ASCII      -- plain text
- TkMan      -- Tk format wrapped with commands
- Tk         -- just emit list of text-tags pairs
- Sections   -- simple plain text reformat
- Roff       -- primitive analogue of roff
- HTML       -- HTML 4.0 standard document
- XML        -- DocBook XML support by by Aaron Hawley
- MIME       -- generates MIME compliant to RFC 1563
- LaTeX      -- typical LaTeX
- LaTeX2e    -- rest same as old LaTeX
- RTF        -- Rich Text Format (RTF) could use more work
- pod        -- Perl 5 pod, plain old documentation format
- AmigaGuide -- AmigaGuide support by Chris Young

If I'm missing something, if you want you can report me other apps to be included in AROS One, any of your requests will be well received, of course I will also create the icons in AROS One style.

Another useful application found on Aminet, it is an RTF to HTML5 converter, the application is called RTF2HTML and you will find it installed in the Office folder of AROS One x86.

I've noticed that the latest version of DiskImageGUI v52.34 present on archives.aros doesn't show the "icons" menu images, so to restore DiskImageGUI on the new AROS One x86, replace "only" the executable with DiskImageGUI v52.32 present on the deadwood Nightly Build.

Another interesting utility present both on Aminet and archives.aros-exec, it is ViewISO a TrueType font viewer that will allow Dopus4 to display TTF Fonts with one click.

For TTF fonts I also created a Datatypes Descriptor and a custom def_TTF.info icon, the tool used in the Tooltypes is always "ViewISO" which will not show the font but will trigger the filerequester.

I add that unfortunately does not exist on AROS x86 a command for Dopus4 or Wanderer that allows you to show the BitmapFont icons

Yes thanks, now with the section dedicated to AROS One I can create thematic Thred so as not to disperse info, reports and advice from users, I also hope that some user (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=97987&page=5) who follows my distribution on other forums come to visit me here where he can find some more info by the developers.

Also this software has been included on AROS One x86

RunInDOSBox allows double-clicked MS-DOS programs to be automatically redirected
to run inside DOSBox, interesting and convenient application that could not miss on AROS One.

In the  README (https://aminet.net/package/misc/emu/RunInDOSBox) the developer of RunInDOSBox said that on AROS it could not work well, to me instead it seemed that everything works perfectly, i enclose video that shows the operation of RunInDOSBox:

You will find this application in the Office folder, also for this application I have created AROS One style icons.

Installed on AROS One some tools for Developers, among these Murks, an integrated development environment that tilizes the same project file format of AmiDevCpp, so the exchange of data is possible.

The installation went well, tomorrow I'll try to write a few lines or compile some source code in "C", of course this is not my field but I need to see if everything works well because the GUI is quite friendly.

On this occasion I changed the graphics with Menu Icons in strictly AROS One style.

I always thought MurksIDE was an excellent idea for an IDE for AROS. It's a shame seeing applications start and then not advance from the plateau. I wonder if there is a way to add syntax highlighting.

Well, I worked on MurksIDE as actually my introduction to AROS. From perspective, I would use an already available editor with syntax highlighting as a basis and add the UI/tooling around it. I think this is how MorphOS did with their IDE.

An internal IDE for AROS seems like an interesting project. Syntax highlighting would be nice but many external code editors already suffice.

If we had an IDE inside AROS x86 that could compile system components like datatypes and MultiView and such I would be very satisfied.  :)

@deadwood

I noticed that Murks v0.5.4 works much better.

Murks v06.0 doesn't compile my script, the window that shows the compilation doesn't have the close tab, moreover when you click on Build project a second main.c* project is generated

I had no luck with Murks
(https://i.postimg.cc/x8fVk1Bk/murks.png)

I can see files listed on the left but wont show any text if i click on them,

Syntax highlighting would be killer on Murks.

Gcc integrated to Murks? can i just run the MurksIDE because gcc already installed in my icaros system

What MurksIDE can do  is what i am trying to do atm, well also good to have another alternative.

ooh top icons needs some love..

After running MurksIDE i kind of think just adding Syntax highlighting than integrate latest or current gcc than we have amazing app..

I tried to compile a source of a program and it worked perfectly with Murks 0.5.4, while on Murks 0.6.0 I got errors, as well as difficulties in using it.

I attach a small video showing the compilation of a utility called DirTree.

I tried with other sources and some of them didn't work, probably the procedure I used for DirTree is not enough.

I downloaded both. The DirTree source looks very simple. I'll try to compile it later this evening. I'll try Murks also just to compare.

The font datatype looks interesting. I might look into that also.

Watch out Murks, if you don't have the right files in the Development folder it doesn't work, moreover in the S folder there are all the assignments and you don't need a script to start Murks.

If you have problems I can send you my Developent folder with Murks included, all working :)

I was a little rusty, but it started coming back to me.  :)

There were two errors in the code for DirTree. After I corrected them then I could compile at the commanline using gcc using:
gcc dirtree.c -o dirtree

Then I copied it to the C directory and it functioned the same as the original executable included with the source files.

Here are the two corrections: In the struct at the beginning for "Global" on line 96 the value was LONG * but the function expects IPTR * so...
IPTR              opts[NOPTS];

Lastly on line 335 the DateTime flag can either be set or not set but it can't be NULL apparently. It only accepts value "DTF_SUBST" so...
//g->dt.dat_Flags   = NULL;
g->dt.dat_Flags   = DTF_SUBST;

The nice part of DirTree is that you can direct the output to a text file such as: "dirtree system:devs nohead >file.log"

Here is the code file attached.

After I made the two slight corrections I was able to drop the c file in my Build System for Icaros 64bit along with the mmakefile. It compiled and worked fine for 64bit as well.

Possibly the older version of Murks didn't detect any errors, but the newer version did find errors. I suppose if it doesn't compile at the commandline it won't work in Murks either.

Here is the mmakefile that I used:

You took the first step. That's good.  :)

Five years ago I knew nothing about C programming and I especially knew nothing about programming for AROS or Amiga!

My first program was a copy-paste "Hello AROS World" just like yours. There are programmers like Deadwood willing to help.

Keep choosing small programs to build your skills. After a while you'll see much improvement. Then take on bigger projects.

Thanks miker, I'm glad you tried AROS One, the fact that users like it pushes to do better and better within the limits of their experience.

AROS needs modernization and functionality, in my small way I try to represent it at best, the too much similarity of AROS to Amiga in my opinion made it an old system, that's why I wanted to create a different AROS One graphic line so that users recognize it as AROS and not as an Amiga simulation.

Of course after using it they will notice the strong resemblance to Amiga, it is not the icons that make you recognize a system, but its functionality.

Thank you for your hard work. What you and others are doing with these distros is keeping the AROS spirit alive.  :)

I liked using AROS One x86 because it has many features. But mostly because it opens and closes quickly in my Virtual Machine. When I'm doing an iterative process of editing, compiling, testing and editing, compiling, testing it's good to be able to open and close the test platform as quickly as possible.

I will certainly use it for testing some new applications.  :)

Thanks to Miker's DTConv is now possible on AROS One x86 to convert images in JPG, PNG, IFF and GIF formats directly from Dopus4 with a simple click.

As you can see on Dopus4 I've created three different buttons, a "Purple" button for direct conversion with a predefined file name, a second "Blue" button to save with a file name of our choice, and a third "Red" button that allows you to save the image with a file name and a path of your choice.

PNG images would be nice. Pointer display and types was a topic a few years ago when Michal Schultz was working on some graphics drivers for AROS 68k. It seems to be part of the AROS graphics system and may not be easy to figure out.

There are some nice pointers that came with AIAB (Amiga In A Box) from many years ago. I use one on my Amiga 1200.

I know AIAB, on my WinUAE nothing is missing, there are both AIAB and the updated version with AfA OS, HERE (https://www.amiganews.it/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=20569&sid=4aabd30ef81506050a5780797183f5c8) you can see some of my RTG OS.

Regarding AIAB and Pointers, it can handle only IFF images as OS 3.9 does, AROS x86 handles PNG very well, AROS 68k instead strangely behaves like OS3 even if the Pointer Prefs program is the same !

Try this new icon on AROS One x86 & AROS One 68k.

Of course you have PeterK's Icon Library so it won't matter.

I'm getting close to understanding why PNG Icons don't show correctly on AROS 68k.

It can display either a real Classic Glow Icon or a fake OS35 Glow Icon with ARGB Data Chunks.

So it's not like AROS 68k can't display ARGB Icon Data. It can but not from real PNG Icons. I wonder why?

Those new colorful icons are being displayed on my AROS Vanilla 68k. They look as nice as the originals.  ;)

Surprise, I tried your icon on my AfA One that also uses PeterK's icon.library, your icon shows up wrong as it happened on AROS One 68k, but if I try to copy it in RAM, your icon is corrected and now it shows up fine on ARS One 68k too, see screenshot ;D

Attach correct icon

It's a "fake" OS3.5 Classic Icon with ARGB Data. It's not PNG.

It's for use on AROS 68k using AROS Icon Library.

Short article but easy enough to read despite my poor language skills. Even worse when I try to read French or German. LOL.

Always good things to say about you. You're making AROS Great Again and perhaps fun again.

Italian is not difficult, even if in Italy English is the most known language, as a boy I studied French and German, English I studied with Amiga and AROS :)

Spanish and Portuguese are the languages most similar to Italian, especially the regions of Southern Italy that have many words in common with Spanish and Portuguese in their dialects.

In addition to understanding some conversational French, German and Italian I speak and read/write Castellano Spanish and I understand some Catalan. It's similar to Provencal and many words are very similar to Italian.

On AROS One x86 new Games PipeWalker, OpenGL Pipe Connecting Game by Cavemann

This is a puzzle game in which you need to combine the components into
a single circuit: connect all computers to a network server, bring water
to the taps, etc.

1. Supported command line parameters.
   -help:    help
   -version: show information about version
-id:      start level with specified id (number from 1 to 99999999)
-wrap:    set wrap mode (0: disable, 1: enable (default))
-size:    set level map size (small, normal (default), big or extra)

   Usage example:
      pipewalker -id=1234 -wrap=0 -size=big

2. Themes support.
The game supports various themes. Themes are stored as a set of textures
in PNG file. To add a new theme - copy the PNG file to the application
   data directory:
     Linux/Unix - usually /usr/local/share/pipewalker
     MS Windows - C:Program FilesPipeWalkerdata
The theme name is the name of the PNG file.

As a super amateur today I've been delighted to modify and compile a source of a useful Application found on AROS Archive to be inserted on AROS One x86.

The application is called "DiskValid GUI" for AROS, the change is motivated by the fact that DiskValid GUI used the font Topaz 8, font too small, so I replaced it with Arial 16 and then I had to enlarge the Tab to avoid graphical artifacts.

All went well because I did not find any error in the compilation, thanks to Miker for his teachings!

Also RNOArchive will be present in the new version of AROS One x86, RNOArchive as well as UnARC on AROS x86 cannot unpack some formats because of the lack of "XAD Clients".

No problem instead for RNOArchive 68k on AROS One 68k, where thanks to an OS version of XADMaster.library all the necessary "XAD Clients" are available to unpack all the most common formats of other platforms.

No it doesn't have defects, it's the XADMaster.library that is incomplete on AROS x86 and AROS 68k, in fact as said above on AROS 68k I use the "XADMaster.library" AROS and its "XAD Clients" native OS3 and RNOArchive unpack all formats.

As said must be improved the "XADMaster.library" and added the missing "XAD Clients" !

On AROS One there is also RNOEffects, an application cross-platform developed by jPV that lets you add effects to your images:

Features

 - Around 30 different image processing effects including drop shadows,
elliptic crop, and other effects which would need several steps on other
   similar programs
 - Drawing options for brushes, text, lines, ellipses, boxes, and arrows
 - Batch converter and image joiner tools
 - All effects can be applied to images in a freely selectable order in a
batch conversion or image joining process
 - Unlimited amount of images can be joined as a single image
 - Can save multiple images to a single PDF file
 - ARexx support

Updated AROS One x86 with the new stable version of "InstallerLG", a reimplementation of the 'Installer' utility included with AmigaOS as of version 2.1. InstallerLG aims to be fully compatible with the original as described in the V44.10 documentation. Most resource limitations found in the Commodore implementation are gone, and the GUI has been replaced by a MUI/Zune based one.

I tried VIM under Icaros 2.1.1 which has June 2016 system files and there is no crash at exit. On the other hand I get crash with with local linux-hosted ABIv0 build. Can you check older versions of your distribution if Vim crashe at exit for you?

Another question: when installing InstallerLG did buttons always worked (in the installer) or there where screens when clicking on buttons wasn't working and you had to use keyboard enter to "click" a button?
Title: Re: AROS One x86 Work In Progress
Post by: AMIGASYSTEM on February 13, 2022, 12:30:29 PM
My Distributions have a newer core than IcarOS 2.1, with all versions of AROS One I get the crash on exit.
The library that is loaded by VIM on exit is intuition.library, it could be the culprit.

On all my VIM Distributions it works fine up to version 8.2.25

Regarding InstallerLG I didn't find that problem, I should check better, if you know some software installation that created you the problem I could do some tests on my distributions.

I've created two small scripts that allow you to recover "all" files deleted from the operating system by a simple click on the appropriate icon on any SFS or PFS formatted Hardisk.

The script as soon as executed will open Dopus4 with the path of the "deleted" files set, ready to facilitate copying the deleted files or to execute them.

All files that have been deleted several times will also be recovered, each of them having a different nomenclature.

The script settings recover files from the system partition, but with a small change volume name can be used for any other location, the script works on all AROS x86/68k, AMIGA OS3/OS4 and MOS Operating Systems that use these two Filesystems.

I enclose a small video tutorial that shows the above:

After two days of hard work I have made visible all the documentation in TXT, GUIDE, PFD and HTML included in the software folders with REAL icons, see screenshot.

Previously I had deleted all the old icons present on AROS One x86, so that the system assigns the right DualPNG icon and the right tool configured in the "Def" Icon present in the system.

This choice is motivated by the fact that some user not seeing the icons could have thought to delete all the documentation!

Updated AROS One x86 with the new version of SilkRAW 1.3.

SilkRAW is a program that allows you to work with RAW files generated by digital
SLR cameras, acting as an interface to the dcRAW program written by Dave Coffin.

Features include:

- Built-in thumbnail exports, individual RAW files or groups, with metadata
extraction and rotation capabilities
- 23 dcRAW options supported
- Batch processing of RAW files, with saving in TIFF, PPM, JPG, PNG, ILBM

SilkRAW requires dcRAW and the RapaGUI plugin.

This program makes RAW files processing much simplest for more users (pleasant
as silk – this explain the name of this program).

SilkRAW is released as freeware and can be distributed in every non-commercial
form.

Among the Graphic Demos included on AROS One x86 you will also find "GL-Excess", a Demo in OpenGL useful to test your Video Card, with VESA the Demo "GL-Excess" turns out to be very slow !
