Title: PDF Maker
Post by: salvo on March 22, 2020, 06:14:40 PM
hello All

I commissioned this work to a programmer known in the scene, I should know something, next week, it will be a simple pdf editor, where you can also add text in columns, images and links to the web.

all best

I think the version I tried today is complete and functional even if in beta, entire documents can be created in pdf, the text can also be distributed in columns, images can be inserted, new pages, page format and choose the type and the size of the font :D

Exactly, in reality I had asked the jpv programmer only for a pdf editor, in fact this is the current program but he wants to expand it perhaps, we will see in the future

This program is really promising, but there are still many quirks to fix and a lot of mandatory features to add. Please forward this bug report:

1. layer stack seems to be upside down: you have to click the down arrow to place a layer on top of another layer, which is somehow counter-intuitive

2. if you select the bottom layer (the first in the list) and click the UP arrow by mistake, program crashes with an error

3. if you change title to a layer (for instance, from "Text Object" to "Page title"), the program crashes with an error

Feature requests:

4. You can choose the font size and family for text, but not its color. This must be added.

5. Postitions and sizes are expressed in pixels, while you'd really need centimeters or inches

6. Is the program ready for future conversions of measurement units, and pixel-per-inch resolutions?

I've seen that you can import a high resolution image and it gets "printed" very well! Good!

for the rest I will calmly suggest to the author the other requests I don't want to stress him, but as far as the color of the fonts is concerned he is already thinking about it :)

Paolone sorry I did not find your problems, I entered the title and author and also moved the layers up and down but the program does not crash unexpectedly, then as regards the layers they are in descending order and that's okay, then the author had no problems on morphos :)

I've noticed overall stability issues on IcarosDesktop Abiv0. IcarosDesktop x86-64 is much more stable but not much software at the moment. So the instability of any program is hard to judge on x86.

This program he have problems, but it is aplha version... I don't see it as a problem... it is development.  ::)

2020-06-30:
- Added "Auto apply" setting, which applies changes automatically when you activate other objects or save
- Vertical lines didn't work when exporting to PDF
- Page orientation was still missing something, now it really should work when loading and exporting
- Some tweaking to default paths etc
- Hunted down an annoying GUI update bug which crashed randomly on OS4, and made some major internal changes as a workaround. It may still be an issue when adding new fonts, but can't do anything for it, probably a bug in OS4 MUI implementation or in their codesets.library, or who knows where.
- Added ability to create a PDF outline tree (table of contents), but unfortunately MUI's listtree class crashes badly on AROS/Zune and is unusable. Maybe I'll have to leave it out there for now :/
- Disabled the outline tree on AROS by default, but it can be enabled with the -outline cli argument or the OUTLINE tooltype if Listtree notifications would be fixed in newer Zune versions
- Waiting for some results and opinions from my regular betatester(s) who seem to be busy lately, still couple of things I want to talk with them.

Hi, just two questions

1. Chrome does not allow me to download anything from the hosting site tinyupload, for security reasons. Please put it elsewhere.

2. would I be allowed to add the final version of RNODTP to Icaros Desktop?

thanks and kind regards

Hi Paolone

yes even if the author has not published the program on aminet because of testing on other platforms you can include it very well on icaros, the work that I supported I did for the community not for personal purposes

On ABIv0 aros there is a problem with compiling the Hollywood plugin which reads and writes PDF files. If you noticed, we have several Hollywood-based programs that can create PDF files, but none (except AROSPDF, which is not Hollywood based) reading them. I have discussed long ago with Andreas and others about the issue and, like many others, it hasn't been fixed.

the final beta

http://jpv.wmhost.com/testi/RNODTP/RNOPublisher_AROS_beta.lha

Aminet release could be maybe next week :)

2020-07-22 (should stop somewhere and release the program, but the time wasn't yet it seems):
- Scaling large images to fit the page didn't include margins for the new size
- Position for new objects is now taken from the previous object also when adding by buttons and not just by doube-clicking
- New objects are positioned not only by previous selection, but now also by previous movement/resizing
- Argh, had to make a crucial internal change to make future updates easier. Old docs won't work, hopefully nothing else broke.
- Added "Text line" object, which can be rotated
- Added a background color option for objects
- Tweaked loading of documents more future proof
- Implemented object cache to speed up selection of objects on a page
- Added image rotation options
- Support for alpha transparent images
- Support for palette based transparency in images (iff, gif...)
- Loads images and text files dropped on GUI, not just .rnd files
- Added an option to lock object in position
- Changed name to RNOPublisher
- Implemented multi-remove, and group moving via object list
- Page Up/Down to move through pages in document
- Line spacing in exported PDF files is more precise now (as-seen in an edit window)

Since the Software AROS is no longer a free OS I am suspending my distribution.

Since the Software AROS is no longer a free OS I am suspending my distribution.

Uh? AROS is still a completely free OS. But asking permission for inclusion to 3rd party applications developers is part of the duties of any distro mantainer. I generally 1. read the documentation and 2. ask permission to authors if something isn't clear, but some times this is just not enough: I've been told at least twice that I overlooked something and, in both these circumstances, I just apologized and politley asked required permissions. Salvo told me he would prefer to be credited for sponsoring RNO Publisher, and I just credited him in the readme file.

Solutions are simple.

Paul this when it is written somewhere, if you do not know the background, once distributed and find written  "his software is made available to you as Freeware and you may use this software in whatever way you wish" one believes he can use it don't think.

From there call education and profiteers is very serious! could warn me in private!

Paolo don't know if you have read it, in Icaros 2.3 there is a problem in the Icon Information, the problem should be in the startup, I have used the standard startup-sequence and the problem is resolved

I will look into it. Anyway, it's not Icaros' only issue. With newer system file I'd expect AROS to be able to shut down a virtual machine or a physical computer when I cast the shutdown command. But the operation does not succeed with Icaros customizations.

I'd need to undrstand what's blocking it.

IMHO, AMIGASYSTEM is capable of negotiations, then there is no need to "tear and throw."
In principle, I would also like my releases to be included "as is", but also I believe that all my releases that I have posted somewhere are in the public domain.
Chasing copyright can go far. For example, I believe that .ct files are not the place to add copyright.
I delete other people's copyrights from .ct and don't write my own.
Because it can contain 100,500 names, but in fact I had to recycle the file by 99.99%
I should be grateful that someone once created this file and it has almost the correct structure?
I'm sure not, this file is so outdated that it cannot even be used to build a catalog, or the catalog assembled with it is not accepted by a modern application.
Besides all who did it in the distant past (Russian ATO), I know personally, and if they have a claim, we will decide it personally.
That's why battles over icons, text files, scripts, etc. are strange to me.
The only way to appear in the list of aros contributors is to write yourself there.
I'm not ready yet, but this is not a reason for hysteria? =)
